Fellowship

Fellowship of The AICB is a mark of senior professional status in the banking & finance industries.

The requirements for Fellowship reflect the diversity of the sector in which members operate and recognise service and commitment to AICB and its objectives.

Fellowship criteria
To be considered for Fellowship all candidates must fulfil all of the following criteria.

Status
You must meet the criteria for Associate status of The AICB.

Experience
You must have at least 20 years of relevant banking and finance experience, with at least five of these at a senior level.

Service
You must be able to demonstrate, and provide evidence of how you have contributed towards the goals of The AICB and/or supported the development of professionalism/professional education in the banking and finance sector. We normally expect such service to be over and above your full-time job.

Examples include:
•    Working to rebuild public confidence and trust in financial services – this could be through giving talks, presentations, interviews or writing articles;
•    Helping to promote financial capability and understanding in your local community;  
•    Raising awareness of financial services as a career choice among young people;  
•    Becoming a mentor or ambassador;
•    Serving as a regional network committee member;
•    Giving talks or presentations to our full-time students;
•    Providing work placements for students;  
Benefits of election to Fellowship include:
•    Recognition of your commitment to the banking & finance industries and in particular education and training;
•    Use of the description 'Fellow of The London Institute of Banking & Finance' and the designation 'Fellow LIBF' on your business card and stationary;
•    Opportunities to network and build connections with other Fellows, becoming part of an exclusive and influential group;
•    Inclusion in the online Fellow's Directory.
Applications for Election
If you fit the criteria and are interested in becoming a Fellow please send your CV for initial assessment to AICB. If the initial assessment is successful you will be invited to formally apply.

As part of the application we will ask you to provide a written statement of between 500 -1000 words outlining your service to the industry and The AICB.

You will also need to provide the contact details of two references.  

a. One must be a current line manager or employer. If you are self employed then we will accept a reference from a client.    
b. The other referee should be from outside your work place and hold a senior position within financial services or related industry.
c. Both referees must be known to you for at least two years and willing to provide a written reference.

You are also encouraged to provide evidence to support your achievements. This can be in the form of articles you have written or appeared in, presentations you have given, or testimonials from colleagues or peers.    

You application will then be reviewed by the Fellowship Assessment Panel who will decide if you should be awarded Fellowship. In all cases the decision of the panel is final.

Election as an Associate
The completion of all the prescribed examinations will qualify a member to be elected an Associate.

AICB  completed members would be required to submit the following documents to be formally included:
1.    A brief Curriculum Vitae
2.    One recent passport photograph endorsed at the back by a Fellow/Associate of the Institute or Head of Department
3.    Bank draft for N5,000 being compulsory special development levy

Criteria for Fellowship election as approved by the Governing Council
1.    ASSOCIATES IN THE BANKING INDUSTRY/OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS
To be eligible for election as Fellow, a person:
a.    Must have completed the Fellowship Application Form.
b.    Must have been an Associate Member for at least 10 years.
c.    Must be or had held a Senior Management Position.
d.    Must have attended pre-investiture CCPD Programme.
e.    Must be considered by the Board of Fellows as fit and proper for election into Fellowship of the Institute.
f.    Must have fulfilled all financial obligations before investiture.

For Associates who have not attained Senior Management position:
g.    Must have been an Associate Member for at least 15 years.
h.    Must be on grade of at least Assistant Manager in the Banking Industry/Other Financial Institutions

2.    ASSOCIATES IN ACADEMIA
An Associate who is not currently engaged in banking industry but is in the academics:
a.    Must have completed the Fellowship Application Form.
b.    Must have been an Associate for at least 10 years.
c.    Must hold or had held at least the position of Lecturer I or its equivalent in banking and finance related discipline.
d.    Must have attended pre-investiture CCPD Programme.
e.    Must be considered by the Board of Fellows as a fit and proper person to be elected into Fellowship of the Institute.
f.    Must have fulfilled all financial obligations before investiture.

For Associates who have not attained Lecturer I grade:
g.    Must have been an Associate Member for at least 15 years.
h.    Must be on grade of at least Lecturer II in the in banking and finance related discipline.

3.    ASSOCIATES IN OTHER INSTITUTIONS OR ENGAGEMENTS
a.    Must have completed the Fellowship Application Form.
b.    Must have been an Associate for at least 10 years.
c.    Must be or had held a Senior Management Position.
d.    Must have attended pre-investiture CCPD Programme.
e.    Must be considered by the Board of Fellows as a fit and proper person to be elected into Fellowship of the Institute.
f.    Must have fulfilled all financial obligations before investiture.

4.    APPLICANTS OF OTHER BANKING INSTITUTES WHO HAVE REGISTERED WITH CIBN.
a.    Applicants must be Associates who have registered their qualifications and membership with the Institute for not less than 12 calendar months before the application for Fellowship.
b.    Must have applied in writing.
c.    Must have been an Associate Member of any other Banking Institute for at least ten years.
d.    Must have attended pre-investiture CCPD Programme.
e.    Must be in a Senior Management Position OR must hold or had held at least the position of Lecturer I in banking and finance related discipline.
f.    Must be considered by the Board of Fellows as a fit and proper person to be elected into Fellowship of the Institute.
g.    Must have fulfilled all financial obligations before investiture.

5.    APPLICANTS WHO ARE NOT ASSOCIATES TO BE CONSIDERED

FOR HONORARY FELLOWSHIP
a.    Only persons (including Academics) who have contributed immensely to banking and / or finance education, ethics, professionalism and practice as well as the growth of the Institute.
b.    Honorary Fellowship shall not be applied for but shall be by nomination from the Board of Fellows.
c.    The Board of Fellows shall request the prospective nominee to forward his/her curriculum vitae for records. The nominee, upon approval, shall be required to complete Honorary Fellowship Member’s Form.
d.    All Honorary Fellows shall pay annual subscriptions.
